It’s that time of year again; where sleigh bells ring, choirs sing, and we all enjoy ourselves at the company holiday party. The company holiday party is a time when we come together with our colleagues to celebrate getting through another year of emails, conference calls, and meetings. The company holiday party is a celebration, but we shouldn’t forget that it is also a work function. Here are some tips to enjoy the company party without being the main topic of discussion at the water cooler the next morning.
Work the Room
We all get comfortable with our core group of colleagues and friends. It’s nice when you can develop deep relationships at work. But, at the party you should make it your business to work the room. Talk to as many people as possible, and thank them for helping you throughout the year.
Don’t Over Indulge
It’s never a good idea to over indulge in anything, but over doing it with alcohol at the company party is a seriously bad idea. It’s easy to fall victim to the open bar. If you can’t control yourself, you should treat the day as if it were another day at the office and bypass the martinis.
Remember, You’re Still at Work
The company party, even though it’s a celebration, is still a work function. Steer clear of anything that can come back to haunt you. That includes over doing it at the bar, gossiping about colleagues, complaining about year-end performance reviews, and especially voicing your displeasure about any year-end bonus that you may or may not have received.
Have fun at your company holiday party!
